Anthropic has paused its free year of Claude Team and $1,000 API credit offers for startups after demand exceeded the program’s capacity. For founders, the crucial distinction is whether they claimed the offer: Anthropic says claimed benefits remain usable, while it will review all applications again and may change some application statuses.
The company says it received hundreds of thousands of applications within days. Its notice, accessed October 9, 2026, describes a capacity limit on these offers, without identifying a shortage of computing resources or giving a date for their return.
Claimed offers remain available
The notice distinguishes between application status and benefits already claimed: “nothing changes; you can use the offer in the account.” That matters because TechRadar’s October 7, 2026, coverage described the expanded package as a free year of Team, including up to five Premium seats for companies new to the plan, alongside API credits. Anthropic says “we’ll re-review all applications,” which may result in a “change in the status of some applications,” but doesn’t specify which approved applications could lose eligibility.
Anthropic says existing members retain partner offers, technical office hours and events. Founders should check which benefits their account actually shows before treating the earlier package as available.
The offers remain paused, with claimed benefits still usable. Anthropic plans to reshape the program and review applications again; its notice gives no reopening date or new eligibility criteria.
