Polestar 4 SUV gets back the rear window the Coupé skipped

Polestar's updated 4 SUV swaps the Coupé's camera-only rear view for a real rear window and adds vehicle-to-load power, at the same discounted Australian drive-away price.

Polestar has put a rear window back on its Polestar 4. The updated SUV version has a piece of real glass behind the driver, after the Coupé launched with none and relied only on a camera feed. If you've ever wanted to turn your head and just look, this one is for you.

The Coupé's missing glass was a trade. Polestar's engineers said it let them stretch the panoramic sunroof back, giving rear passengers more headroom while keeping a sloping roofline. Drivers saw the camera-only mirror differently, and News.com.au says the reception was frosty. The SUV answers that with a taller roof, a squared-off tail and the rear glass. Polestar says the new body "opens the rear vision-field towards the tailgate with a rear window" and comes with a conventional rear-view mirror as standard.

What carries over, and what's new

The powertrains are unchanged from the Coupé, according to the review. Figures below are claimed ranges.

Version Power Claimed range
Long Range Single Motor (100kWh battery) 200kW up to 630km
Long Range Dual Motor 400kW 600km
Dual Motor with Performance Pack 400kW 520km

The dual motor does 0 to 100km/h in under four seconds, the reviewer says, and CarExpert puts it at 3.9 seconds. The Performance Pack adds gold Brembo calipers, 21-inch forged wheels and a firmer chassis tune, which is where the range loss comes from. Polestar also retuned the suspension for ride comfort and body control.

New is vehicle-to-load (V2L), which lets the car power outside gear. Polestar says it delivers up to 3.3kW of AC power through an adapter, and a new Camping mode turns the parked car into a climate-controlled space. In the reviewer's camp test, one car ran showers, a kitchen, coffee machines and electric blankets across two tents overnight, and lost just six per cent of its battery, leaving about 420km of range.

Price and the catch

Polestar isn't charging extra for the SUV. Both body styles sit at a recently discounted price of around $81,000 drive-away, rising to $91,000 for the dual motor. The review doesn't say which currency or market those prices are in, though the source is Australian, so check before comparing. CarExpert lists the SUV from A$73,900 before on-road costs for the rear-motor version. In Germany it starts at €57,900 (around US$67,000).

The reviewer's complaints are the touchscreen-heavy, buttonless cabin and the price. Even air vents are adjusted through the screen, and it can be hard to tell which airflow mode is on. The car runs Android Automotive with Google services and Gemini as the assistant, and built-in Google Maps gets praise for charging info and range-at-arrival estimates.

The reason for the change comes from Polestar's own launch wording as relayed by Electrek and Carscoops, plus the review's framing. Polestar is building the SUV in Busan, South Korea, and says it will sell it in most markets, though not the United States.

Australian orders are open, and CarExpert reports first deliveries are planned for the fourth quarter of 2026. Buyers should still confirm current pricing and delivery timing with a Polestar dealer before ordering.
