Electrek rounds up LEGO sets for EV fans, from racers to dozers

Electrek's 2026 guide sorts LEGO's electric and hybrid vehicle kits by theme and difficulty, ending with app-controlled Caterpillar and Volvo builds that are big and expensive.

Electrek has put together a 2026 buyer's guide to LEGO sets for EV fans, and it covers more ground than you might expect. Writer Jo Borrás says LEGO has "quietly" added a run of plug-powered machines in recent years, from hybrid racers to battery-powered excavators and garbage trucks.

If you have a builder at home, or you are one, this is a handy shortcut. The list is a gift guide as much as a news item.

How the list is organized

Borrás grouped the kits by LEGO theme, which he says also works as a rough guide to difficulty. The further down the page you go, the bigger and more involved the builds get.

At the top end sit the app-controlled Caterpillar DX-11 electric drive dozer (set 42131) and the Volvo EC500 Hybrid excavator (set 42215). Electrek calls these seriously impressive and seriously expensive. The guide's text as we read it does not give prices, piece counts or release dates for any set, but other pages do. The Volvo set has 2,359 pieces and lists at $429.99 USD, according to the review site Brickset. Amazon's listing for the dozer, which it calls the Cat D11 Bulldozer, gives 3,854 pieces and an app-controlled design. Check the retailer before you plan a budget.

Real EVs behind the bricks

Many entries link to Electrek's coverage of the real vehicle. Clicking the vehicle name, such as the Lotus Evija, opens an article about the car, while clicking the set number, such as 76907, goes to the kit itself. That pairing is a nice touch if you want to compare the toy with the machine it copies.

Borrás also says the list looks like a fairly complete picture of the sets currently on sale. He points to the LEGO community forums for fan-made EV ideas, including unofficial Tesla showrooms and a tiny GMC Hummer EV concept. Those are fan concepts, not products you can buy.

What we could not confirm

We worked from the article's text, not the full set-by-set list, so we can't vouch for each entry, its price or whether it is in stock. We could not open LEGO's own product page, which blocked our request, and we have not asked LEGO why it keeps adding EV kits or put questions to Borrás about what the guide leaves out. One caution from Brickset's reviewer: the Volvo's motor drives only the boom, not the tracks or turntable, and he called the price "ridiculous" for what you get. The Electrek page also carries affiliate-style promotions for solar installers, which is common on guides like this.

If you are shopping this holiday season, Electrek's full guide is the place to start, since each vehicle name leads to its real-world story and each set number leads to the kit. Check current prices and stock with the retailer before you buy.
