KLM announced on October 8, 2026 that it plans to start offering free Starlink WiFi on intercontinental flights in mid 2027, with a Flying Blue account required to connect. Economy passengers will qualify alongside everyone else, but access will depend on whether their aircraft has been equipped during the phased rollout.

The airline says passengers will get unlimited internet suitable for streaming films, listening to music and playing games. Starlink’s satellites orbit close to Earth, and KLM says the network will provide connections over oceans and remote routes. Those are promised capabilities, rather than results from the new KLM service.

European WiFi uses another provider

KLM’s existing free European WiFi rollout uses Viasat. That supplier’s January 21, 2026, announcement described a planned expansion across 68 narrowbody and regional aircraft, including KLM Cityhopper.

KLM began its European free access program on January 22, 2026, having announced the service a day earlier and said half that fleet would be equipped at launch. That service also required a Flying Blue login, so the long haul plan extends an access model passengers may already recognize.

For the intercontinental service, travelers without an account can register before departure or through the onboard portal. KLM hasn’t named the first routes, published passenger speed figures or given a date for completing installations. Mid 2027 is the planned beginning, not a fleetwide availability date.

Watch for the first equipped aircraft and route announcements before counting on connectivity for a particular trip.
