Shadow Combat League says it staged seven humanoid robot fights at Kuala Lumpur’s Pavilion Damansara Heights on October 3, with human pilots controlling the action through motion capture. For viewers following AI robotics, the distinction matters: people supplied the combat decisions, so the event wasn’t a demonstration of autonomous fighting intelligence. An attending Sinar Daily reporter independently confirmed seven bouts and human control, describing missed punches and robots that fell over and couldn’t get back up.
The organizer’s October 8 announcement names boxer Aiman Abu Bakar as the GLADIATOR champion and Theebaan as the ICON winner. Former national footballer Safee Sali also faced former badminton player Koo Kien Keat in the NETRUNNER contest. Those results remain the organizer’s account; the attending reporter’s coverage did not name the winners. Malaysia’s national news agency Bernama had previewed the human piloted format in September, describing divisions aimed at entertainers, fighters and technology enthusiasts, but its original report explicitly relied on an organizer statement.
The event listing advertised three rounds of three minutes per bout, with an earlier finish if a robot could no longer get up. That puts movement and recovery at the center of the spectacle, alongside the pilot’s ability to control the machine.
What the fights can teach
LINEARK, the company behind the league, describes the arena as a place to collect structured data on movement, pilot inputs, impacts and recovery. Motion capture uses the pilot’s movements as live control inputs for the robot, leaving strategy and timing with the person. SCL’s announcement identifies Booster Robotics as a LINEARK partner, but does not identify the manufacturer or model of the machines used in these bouts. Its stated ambition is to turn real-world data into robot skills and software, although its website labels both LINEARK Labs and its shared core platform as still in development. Those are development plans, rather than published evidence that the fights have improved autonomous robot performance. The website names broad data categories, but provides no bout dataset, measurement specifications or evaluation results showing what improved.
SCL says it is targeting another event in the first quarter of 2027, with details to follow. The next milestone readers can verify is a confirmed date and fight card, which SCL says it will announce through its official Instagram; the proposed timing remains a target.
