Tesla's new Roadster goes on stage tonight at 8:55 p.m. Eastern. In Texas, where the show is held, that is 7:55 p.m., and on the Pacific coast it is 5:55 p.m.. Viewers in Europe and Asia will need an early Friday, since the stream starts at 1:55 a.m. in London and 9:55 a.m. in Tokyo.

You will not have to go looking for it. Open wattsupnext.com and the countdown is at the top of the front page, set to your own time zone, with Tesla's official player right under it. Press Full screen on the player to fill your screen, on a computer or a phone. Our live event page has the same player, plus updates as the night goes on. Tesla is streaming on X as well, and if our player gives you trouble, the link under it on the event page goes straight to Tesla's own stream.

The wait has been a long one. Tesla showed the first Roadster prototype in November 2017 and said it would be built by 2020. It has slipped at least six times since. People paid $50,000 to reserve one, or $250,000 for the Founders Series, and plenty of them will be watching tonight to see what their money has been waiting on.

The last delay came only two weeks ago. Tesla called off the October 1 show and said it "can only be held outdoors," adding that it had been "tracking the weather closely with local meteorologists". For tonight, the National Weather Service expects a sunny Thursday near 90 degrees in central Texas, then a partly cloudy night with a 30% chance of showers. That is no washout, but it is not a promise either, and Tesla has already learned the difference once.

As for the car, the old numbers are still on the table. In 2017 Tesla talked about a 620 mile range, 0 to 60 miles an hour in 1.9 seconds and a $200,000 price. Elon Musk has since said a version fitted with SpaceX cold gas thrusters could reach 60 in under a second. Tonight should show which of those numbers made it through nine years, and which stayed behind with the drawings.

If you miss it, we will post Tesla's official replay on the event page as soon as it goes up, so you can watch the whole thing when you have the time.

That's wattsup, and here's wattsnext.
